In the winter of 2018, thirteen brothers came together as they saw a need to stretch the helping hand of Manly Deeds, Scholarship and Love for All Mankind to the outer I-240 areas of Metropolitan Memphis. The first meeting was held in May of 2018 in Bartlett, TN to conceptualize the idea of bringing forth a second chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated to the city. During the 87th Southern Regional Convention held in Memphis, TN these brothers would meet with Brother Louis R. Vick the 12th District Director for the Association of Tennessee Alpha men to share their intent. With his immediate support, those thirteen brothers became known as the Shelby County Association of Alpha Men and began the efforts to charter a chapter.

The Sigma Rho Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated (House #963) was provisionally chartered on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at the 95th General Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Sigma Rho Lambda since its chartering has grown to over 70 members and has volunteered more than 6,000- man hours in the local community. It was named the 2020 and 2022 District of Tennessee Alumni Chapter of the Year and has been home to The District of Tennessee Brother of the Year for 2020, 2021, & 2023, Executive Director for the District of Tennessee, Past District Director for the District of Tennessee, Current Executive Director for the Southern Region of Alpha Phi Alpha, and numerous other Brothers that serve on the District, Regional, and National Level.
